My phone restarts wireguard after max handshakes and I get a working connection.

No, just "Send handshake (XXX) to IP:Port" and then "Peer IP:Port handshake timeout" repeating till I manually turn off and on the wireguard connection.

I tried it again in two other network, but with same result.

Maybe you can add an option to restart the wireguard connection after defined handshake attempts.

I'm at IKEA right now and there it's working.

I think the problem only appears when you are in a Mesh network with Wifi Repeaters. In a network built with APs connected over LAN bridges it does work.

I think this doesn't work because roaming between APs isn't a connectivity change. I don't lose the connection to the Wifi/SSID.
